How to make and print stickers at home?

Stickers are loved by everyone, perhaps with the sole exception of municipal public transport companies. While it is true that dozens of advertising stickers at public transport stops do not look particularly aesthetic and obstruct the view, stickers in the right hands and in the right place can work wonders. Stickers offer plenty of inspiration

For children, stickers are a reason for cheerful fun; for adults, they can also be a quick source of valuable information. Labels can warn of danger, provide important contacts, but they can also simply be used to identify stored materials or food. Creative stickers can go even further and transform seemingly insignificant objects into unforgettable pieces.

An excellent example is the American company Folgers, engaged in the production and sale of coffee, which perfected everything by turning manhole covers into cups of black coffee using stickers. The question remains, however, whether sewer manhole covers modified in this way also offered an equally pleasant smell. Homemade stickers naturally will not have such ambitions, yet they can still attract attention and may be useful.

How to print labels

Making stickers is not complicated and practically anyone can do it. Of course, we do not mean the printing of stickers intended for wrapping vehicles, illuminated advertisements, or shop windows, where you simply cannot do without experienced professionals with the appropriate equipment. But if your priority is fast and inexpensive printing of simple stickers, then it won't be rocket science.

The whole trick basically lies only in choosing the right printer and the material on which the stickers will be printed. So let's take a look at what options are available to you. As for technical equipment, in principle you can use both laser printers and inkjet printers for printing stickers. Inkjet printers generally offer higher-quality printing, but these stickers may have issues with ink smudging in humid environments.

One solution could be to laminate them, but if you do not have a laminator at hand, a printer with laser printing technology, which is characterized by higher water resistance and print durability, will serve you well. In the interior, you generally do not need to deal with increased humidity, and you can easily use an inkjet printer to print stickers. However, we still haven't said what material stickers can be printed on, so let's quickly fix that.

Paper, foil, self-adhesive labels – there are multiple options

No expensive or special materials are needed to make homemade stickers.

You can easily make do with matte or glossy self-adhesive photo paper, or you can opt for self-adhesive film. A separate chapter in label printing is self-adhesive labels and tags. Their advantage lies in the various square and rectangular shapes that do not require any trimming.

However, we should not forget the design of the stickers. That will be a matter of your graphic design skills. You can play around with the appearance of stickers in one of the paid graphic design programs, but in our opinion, free alternatives such as Silhouette Studio or Adobe Photoshop can also bring your ideas to life when creating homemade stickers.
